MEET AMY

Amy’s Candles started in my kitchen in 2013. Little did I know then that my holiday craft/gifts idea would be so well received. Perusing Pinterest I came across glass bottle cutting. I immediately cleaned up some wine bottles I had laying around, got my acetone and string. I boiled pots of water and made ice baths in my sink. Bottles exploded and imploded, some cut nicely, most had jagged little edges. Melting the wax in a double boiler on my kitchen stove was the easy part?

Flash forward a few years and I had streamlined the cutting process. I had gone through grinders and dremel tools, hand sanders, palm sanders, sheets and sheets of emery paper and arrived at my motor grinder. Improvements in production ensued.

I am a Pisces. Pisces are known as being intuitive and creative. Our unique way of seeing the world is reflected in our art or any sort of expression. I am passionate about a lot of things and I can honestly say that I am powered by the 4 elements. Living on the Outer Banks, I am surrounded by Water, which I have a very powerful attachment to. Some of my hobbies include kiteboarding, surfing, paddle boarding and snowboarding. My days are absolutely ruled by the Air, or wind. My craft requires me to work outdoors, which I love, but it’s not always possible. The Fire in me ignites the physical aspects of cutting, sanding and polishing glass bottles. I have an incredibly deep connection to the Earth, the woods, mountains. I find myself grounding through my yoga and meditation practice. The action of hand-pouring each candle and creating with my hands completes me.

These candles are so lovingly created. There is a great amount of work and time that goes into upcycling glass bottles. I take pride in each and every candle that I make; I often tell people that “a lot of love has gone into creating this candle.” From day one, I have loved making beautiful, eco-friendly candles and I trust that you will love my creations.
